Dr. Patel is a board-certified psychiatrist, with over four decades of experience in his field. He is licensed to practice medicine in Florida, Ohio, and Michigan.  Currently, he is affiliated with Florida State Hospital, a hospital and psychiatric hospital in Chattahoochee, Florida. Established in 1876, it was Florida’s only state mental institution until 1947. It currently has a capacity of 1,042 patients. In 1973, Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Jamshedpur, India. Upon relocating to the United States, he went on to complete his residency in psychiatry and his residency in pediatrics at the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, New York.
